The Week Ahead
The Wisconsin men's swimming and diving team returns home Thursday for the first time in a month to take on Northwestern in a Big Ten Dual.
Looking Back
The Wisconsin swim team is looking to bounce back from a 187-74 loss to Arizona in a non-conference dual last Friday.
Diver Michael Ross also competed in the Trojan Diving Invitational last weekend, placing in sixth-place on the Platform and third-place on the 1-meter board.
The closest race in the Arizona dual was the 200-yard freestyle. Sophomore Michael Weiss finished in second place with a time of 1:40.22, just .03 seconds off of the pace. The time was a personal best for Weiss, taking .62 seconds off of his previous best set against Minnesota just a week earlier. Luke Lengfeld also posted a season best in the race, finishing fourth in a time of 1:42.88.
Daniel Lester has won every individual meet he has competed in this season, consisting of five different events, including the 200-yard freestyle, the 100-yard butterfly, the 200-yard butterfly, the 200-yard individual medley, and the 400-yard individual medley.
Noteworthy
The Badgers swimmers have won the last two events against the Wildcats, including last years Dual in which the Badgers won 153-144.
Prior to Wisconsin's winning streak, the Wildcats had won four in a row against the Badgers.
Lester's performance this season, which includes three NCAA `B' qualifying times in the 100-butterfly, has earned him two Big Ten Diver of the week awards, a feat that has only been accomplished one other time in school history.
Ross, the only Wisconsin men's diver to place this season, set a single-season school record by winning three Big Ten Diver of the Week awards. This gives Ross four of the awards in his career, which also ties a school record held by Ross' former teammate Caleb Percevecz.
Two of the Northwestern swimmers, Alex Tyler and Sean Matthews competed in the National Championships last season, giving the Wildcats points in the national meet for the ninth time in the last ten seasons.
This is the Badgers final home event of the season, and will be the last chance for all of Wisconsin's seniors to compete at the Natatorium.
