MADISON, Wis. -- In a defensive minded game that was goal less until late in the third period, the Badgers (6-3-2, 3-2-2 WCHA) dropped a 1-0 game to North Dakota in front of 13, 601 fans at the Kohl Center.

Jason Gregoire scored the game's only goal at 14:29 of the third period to give the Fighting Sioux (6-4-1, 5-2-0 WCHA) the victory.

The Badger were unable to capitalize on multiple power-play chances, going 0-for-6 on the power play, including a pair of five-minute major power plays, while North Dakota racked up 40 minutes of penalty time.

The first period ended scoreless after Wisconsin failed to score on a five minute major penalty to Joe Gleason, who received a game misconduct for checking from behind. The Badgers had their best chance of the game when Craig Smith (Madison, Wis.) fired a shot from in front of the net that ricocheted off the crossbar.

In the second period North Dakota received their second game misconduct, when Brett Hextall was sent off for contact to the head. Wisconsin was again unable to capitalize on the five minute major that carried over into the third period. After two periods, North Dakota was out shooting the Badgers 13-9.

In the third period, with the two teams skating four aside after penalties to each side, North Dakota's Jason Gregoire broke the scoreless tie with the game's only goal at 14:29 of the third period. Gregoire received a pass from Derrick LaPoint and fired a shot over the right shoulder of Badger goaltender Scott Gudmandson (Sherwood Park, Alberta).
