MADISON, Wis. -- Opening the College Hockey Showcase against No. 8 Michigan (8-3-4), the Badgers found themselves locked in an overtime duel for the third straight game. This time, the game ended in a draw, with Wisconsin earning a much needed point.

The Badgers (6-6-3) stumbled out of the gate, falling behind Michigan 2-0 in the first period. Luke Moffatt scored first for Michigan, converting after Wisconsin goaltender Brett Bennett (Williamsville, N.Y.) turned the puck over behind his net. Then Michigan added a power-play goal by Carl Hagelin, who converted a rebound chance at the side of the net.

The Badgers battled back, however. Justin Schultz (West Kelowna, B.C.) found the net on a power-play goal at 10:29 of the first period. Schultz fired a slap shot from the right faceoff circle past the goaltender to cut the Michigan lead to 2-1.

Just 43 seconds into the second period, Wisconsin tied the game at 2-2. Jake Gardiner (Minnetonka, Minn.) stole the puck and fired a slap shot, and Sean Dolan (St. Louis) deflected it while skating through the slot for his career-best fifth of the season.

Michigan answered right away, tallying their third goal 1:03 later. Chris Brown potted a power-play goal, deflecting a shot from the point over Bennett's left shoulder.

Wisconsin once again had an answer. On the power play, Gardiner took a pass from Schultz and fired in a one timer from the left faceoff circle at 11:31 of the second period.

However, the Wolverines took a 4-3 lead into the locker room after two periods. Louie Caporusso won a faceoff cleanly through the legs of the opposing center, gathered the puck and found the net for an unassisted tally at 17:52 of the stanza.

The Badgers again found success again in the first minute of the period to open the third. After opening the period on the power play, freshman Mark Zengerle's (Rochester, N.Y.) nifty stick-handling gave him room in the slot, where he fed the Gardiner on the right side. Gardiner then finished for his second goal of the game, leveling the score for the final time. The assist was Zengerle's second of the game and his 18th of the season.

After a hard fought third period, the score remained tied at 4-4. The Badgers skated into an extra session for the third straight game and the fourth time in six games. After an additional five minutes of play, neither team was able to find the net and the game finished as a draw.

The Badgers were successful on the power play, converting on three of their six opportunities. The Wolverines also found success, finishing 2-for-5 on the power play. Michigan outshot the Badgers for the game, 32-24.

Brett Bennett made 28 saves for the Badgers, moving his record to 3-2-2. Michigan's Shawn Hunwick stopped 20 shots to go to 2-2-4 on the season.

Wisconsin concludes the College Hockey Showcase on Saturday when they face off against Michigan State (5-6-3) at 8 p.m.
