Anchorage, Alaska -- The Badgers (7-7-3, 3-6-2 WCHA) fought until the final seconds against Alaska Anchorage, but were ultimately undone by a late Seawolves goal with only 8.1 seconds left in regulation. Alaska Anchorage (5-8-2, 4-6-1 WCHA) finished with a 31-22 edge in shots in a game that was even until the bitter end.

The first period ended scoreless, as the Seawolves held a slight advantage in shots 9-8. The Badgers successfully killed off the one UAA power play in the period.

UAA took a 1-0 lead in the second period while shorthanded. Craig Parkinson scored for the Seawolves, powering a loose puck past goaltender Scott Gudmandson (Sherwood Park, Alberta) as he attempted to maintain control of it in the crease. The goal came at 5:49 of the second period.

Before the period's conclusion, the Badgers tied the score. At exactly 15:00 into the second period, Craig Smith (Madison, Wis.) fired a wrist shot from the point. Jordy Murray (Faribault, Minn.) was stationed in front of the goaltender and deflected the puck into the back of the net to even the score at 1-1. Jake Gardiner (Minnetonka, Minn.) was also credited with an assist on the power-play goal.

The Badgers spent much of the third period fending off power play chances, being whistled for five penalties in the period. They also had an excellent opportunity while shorthanded, as Patrick Johnson's backhander just missed wide and got stuck on the side of the net.

However, after successfully fending off four man advantages, the go-ahead goal for Alaska Anchorage came with the teams skating four aside late in the period. Tommy Grant redirected a centering pass just inside the far post with just 8.1 seconds left in regulation to give Alaska Anchorage the victory.

Scott Gudmandson took the loss for the Badgers, stopping 29 shots while sliding to 4-5-1. For UAA, Rob Gunderson made 21 saves in the victory to improve to 4-5-1. Wisconsin went 1-for-4 on the power play, while Alaska Anchorage was 0-for-5.

The two teams face off again on Saturday night. The puck drops at 10 p.m. CT.
