Head coach Lisa Stone:
On getting the tough win: “This is what is going to define us, our toughness and our ability to take care of the ball down the stretch, make some free throws, get some rebounds, block out, and get some stops. Indiana is a very good team and there’s a reason it’s taken awhile to sweep them. Jamie Braun is a great player; she’s from Wisconsin, she’s a senior, and I wish her nothing but the best. She’s a terrific player and she had a nice game here tonight. The shot she took was in rhythm and that was near half court.”
On turnovers: “Thirteen turnovers is huge, we didn’t beat ourselves tonight. We did what we had to do and I thought we were pretty solid defensively.”
On getting good play off the bench after Zastrow got in foul trouble: “I thought Anya Covington and Ashely Thomas were terrific. I thought Jade Davis gave us great energy, X-factor plays, diving on the floor, getting some steals. We went to the bench and got some good contributions. I thought Rae Lin came in and hit a nice 3-pointer for us, commanded herself down the stretch, and we got it done.”
On shutting down Jori Davis and Teah Gant having the primary responsibility defensively for her: “Teah was terrific. She gives us an element of patience defensively. She’s a quiet leader and a great defender. She not only had Jori Davis, but also guarded Jamie Braun down the stretch.”
On Rae Lin D’Alie’s play: “Rae Lin D’Alie has played more minutes than anyone in program history and she still has the most energy of anybody out there. That says a lot about her. She’s 5-foot-3, she plays 6-foot-3 and she has tremendous energy. She’s on a mission right now because we’re on the cusp of something special, in large part due to her and Teah. Their leadership is outstanding. Rae Lin has a high level of energy that she’s not only going to finish this year with, but take into the profession. She’s going to be a great coach.”
Indiana head coach Felisha Legette-Jack:
Opening statement: “First few things, I want to say Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone, including my husband and son. Hats off to Wisconsin, playing a tough game. I certainly don’t know what Indiana has done to people to make it get to the point where we don’t get any kind of calls. I just felt like, without saying anything that’s going to get us in trouble, I was really disappointed in the fact that it was a rough situation out there and I don’t know if we’ve done something wrong, but I certainly hope that (Big Ten Supervisor of Officials) Patty (Broderick) takes a good look at this game and addresses it.”
On what Wisconsin did to stop Jori Davis: “We probably shouldn’t have played Jori, and definitely not that many minutes. She’s been sick and throwing up and trying to find her way. She is a kid that earned her right to play, wanted to play. I don’t think I use my best judgment because she really wasn’t as free playing as we would need and also because they were playing take-away defense. Some of it had to do with lack of depth. There’s something going on at Indiana that’s causing us to be sick."
On Jamie Braun’s play: “Well, she’s plays the line all the time but she wanted to give you guys a final impression of who she is. This is somebody who is coming back to your state and I think that she can come through the front door of your state. She’s a kid that plays this game as pure as it can be. She was overlooked by a lot of coaches and she ended up at Indiana. She loved your state, Wisconsin, and she wanted to play to make you all proud and I think she left that impression. So when she comes back after she graduates, my hope is that you guys embrace her because she really has done a great job in the Big Ten and she really gets excited when she plays in front of her Wisconsin fans.”
