Wisconsin vs. Bemidji State
Culver's Camp Randall Hockey Classic
Feb. 6, 2010

Wisconsin Interim Head Coach Tracey DeKeyser
On the outdoor experience
“Not only was it just being part of the experience such a true honor, but to come out and to play so well, both, offensively with six goals and free ice cream for 50,000 people but defensively too. We limited them to only a few shots on net and just one unfortunate goal-against. But we will live and learn from that and hopefully tomorrow we can just build momentum here as we move forward.

On the game being outdoors
“It was getting comfortable which was a little bit surreal because we expected a little bit tighter game. I think the advantage went to us, simply because we got on the ice a little more often prior to the competition. That helped us because we had a sense of the puck in a way that we knew how everything was going to react. That was definitely an advantage practicing in advance.

On the offense
“Decker’s line it was like a tic-tac-toe, like the attack triangle, it was textbook. And Jas (Giles) had a nice power-play goal with one of our power play units. It was nice that we were able to end the game with a goal despite having been scored on a couple minutes previous. It was a nice way for fans to have a good feeling when we left and Culver’s to make sure they have lots of ice cream for everyone.”

On the Olympic game being a highlight
“This game beat that one. Not only because we won, we did lose 9-0, but because it was a unique once in a lifetime opportunity. That is now my favorite moment from the season, and again I give credit to the players for coming out prepared and finishing strong.”

Wisconsin sophomore Brianna Decker
On getting so many opportunities
“I think we really moved the puck well today and that’s how we succeeded, our shots on net, and we got a lot of rebounds.”

On 3 on 1 resulting in a goal
“It was a great play, I intercepted the pass on the ice and Nash was up high; she passed it down to Prevost, who passed it on to me.”

On getting a win today
“Yeah, hopefully we can get a win tomorrow, it would be huge to get a sweep this weekend and get momentum.”

On the atmosphere

“It was amazing, the crowd of fans and support, and all the work the construction crew put in to build the ice.”

On the cold temperatures
“It wasn’t that bad, my legs felt warm and my upper body was only a little chilly.”

On the performance on this big of a stage
“It feels great to win on this big of a stage. We really seemed to have the chemistry that we wanted today and moved the puck really well. It was everything I expected it to be. This is the biggest crowd I’ve played in front of in my life. I heard the crowd cheering from one side to the other and that really pumped us up on the bench, too.”

Wisconsin sophomore Carolyne Prevost
What do you walk away from with this experience?
“The energy and how unique this experience is. Years from now I’ll be looking back at this game and we can say we were part of this game, that we won, the atmosphere, you’re not going to get anything better than this. This is a totally different atmosphere as an outdoor game.”

On her goal
“I was yelling for my teammate to pass me the puck, I could just hear the echo through the stadium and then she passed it—a perfect pass. There was no one even on me. I stayed after practice for twenty minutes yesterday to work on my backhand. I thought ‘let me just try this backhand’ and then it went in. To get that early goal, I think one of the factors in this game was getting the early lead, putting them on their heels.”

Bemidji State Head Coach Steve Sertich
Opening Statement:
"It was a perfect day for hockey. It was a wonderful afternoon, the conditions were good and the ice was great. Unfortunately, we didn’t move our feet like Wisconsin did. They were the better team today, so we’ll have to find a way to rebound and get after them tomorrow."

On being a part of only the second outdoor women’s game:
"Just to be a part of this venue at Camp Randall in front of these fans and to play outside was a terrific experience that our players will remember for their whole lifetime."

Bemidji State Junior Erin Cody
On today’s game:
"The game was a lot tougher than I thought it was going to be with the wind. The ice was great, but we didn’t come into the game as mentally prepared as we should have been."

On preparing to play outside:
"We practiced outside last night, which helped us get a feel for the ice and the stadium."
