MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin women's tennis team wrapped up its ACC weekend this afternoon against North Carolina State. The Badgers fell 5-2 against the Wolfpack in their second game in North Carolina bringing their record to 2-4 on the season.
The Badgers got off to a rough start dropping all three doubles matches to give the Wolfpack an early 1-0 lead. Angela Chupa and Aleksandra Markovic challenged Sandhya Nagaraj and Daria Petrovic in the No. 1 spot falling 8-4. Hannah Berner and Kathleen Saltarelli also lost 8-4 in their match against NC State's Berkeley Brock and Lenka Hojckova.
In singles play, Katya Mirnova took on No. 45 Sandhya Nagaraj for her third matchup against a ranked player this season. Mirnova dropped the decision in two sets, 6-1, 6-2. Freshman Hannah Berner grabbed the first win of the day for the Badgers as she faced off against Tana Illova in the No. 5 spot winning 6-1, 6-1.
With Berner's win, the Badgers started to close in with NC State up just 3-1. Alaina Trgovich battled it out with NC State's Daria Petrovic to prevent the loss but eventually fell after taking the game to a third set.
After Petrovic clinched NC State's win, Jessica Seyferth took her match to a third set in her trademark fashion. Hojckova proved to be too much for Seyferth winning 6-4 in the third set. Although North Carolina State had taken the win, UW's Kathleen Saltarelli continued to fight in the No. 6 spot defeating the Wolfpack's Ashley Miller 7-5, 6-3.
The Badgers look to a busy weekend ahead as they host the 2010 ITA Women's Indoor Championship beginning Feb. 12-15. More information on the tournament can be found here.
