MADISON, Wis. -- The move outdoors means big changes for the Wisconsin men's track and field team's throws group.
Just two weeks into the outdoor season, it seems as though the Badgers' throwers have adjusted quickly.
After Robert Dehn's runner-up finish in the javelin on Friday, his teammates continued to find success Saturday at the Florida State Relays.
At the top of the list was junior Jake Fritz, who won the shot put with a throw of 56 feet, 6 1/2 inches -- a mark that moves him into the top 10 in the NCAA West Region. Freshman Casey Dehn was the runner-up with a toss of 52-1 3/4.
Casey Dehn also competed in the discus, where he notched a throw of 147-10 to claim sixth place. Senior Rory Linder finished third with a throw of 165 feet.
The throwers were not the only Badgers having success, however.
In the collegiate 1,500 meters, junior Landon Peacock clocked a time of 3:50.28 to win the event in the first race of his outdoor campaign.
The Wisconsin team of sophomore Grant Bughman, sophomore Kyle Jefferson, junior Andrew Milenkovski and senior James Groce clocked a time of 3:11.24 to finish third in the 4x400-meter relay.
Also earning a third-place finish was Ian Jansen in the pole vault. The sophomore posted a clearance of 15-1 1/2.
Freshman Paul Annear placed fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 45-5.
Making his outdoor season debut, sophomore Pat Plank finished in fifth place in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 53.60. Plank was followed by Grant Bughman, who claimed eighth place. The sophomore crossed the line in 54.80.
In the 200-meter dash, Groce led the way for the Badgers with an eighth-place finish and a time of 21.82 seconds. Kyle Jefferson was right behind Groce, crossing the line in 21.85 seconds to grab ninth place.
Also competing in the 200 meters, freshman Gavin Robertson and junior Chas DeMers finished in 22.16 and 22.17 to finish 12th and 13th, respectively.
Andrew Milenkovski was the final Badger competitor in the event, running a time of 23.08 to finish in 22nd place.
In the 100-meter dash, senior Nate Larkin was the first Badger to cross the line, finishing in 10.99 seconds and claiming 10th place.
With the university on spring break, the Badgers will spend the week training in Tallahassee before heading to Gainesville, Fla., next weekend to compete at the Florida Relays, April 2-3.
