MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin men’s rowing team claimed its fifth consecutive title at the Cochrane Cup on Saturday morning. The win also marks the 32nd time UW has captured the cup in the 49-year history of the event.
The Badgers swept all three races on the Charles River, defeating Dartmouth in the varsity eight, second varsity eight and the freshmen races, as well as MIT in the varsity eight.
A successful varsity eight lineup of coxswain Anthony Altimari, Tim Aghai, Roger Huffman, Matt Lojkovic, Max Goff, Luke Juckett, Steve Dudek, Daniel Gengler and Sam Hoidal defeated both Dartmouth and MIT, finishing in 5:53.78, with Dartmouth close behind at 5:55.71 and MIT closing the race in 6:27.06.
The second varsity eight boat, seating coxswain Matt Francsis, Michael Kaufman, Zach Rodenbough, Paul Williams, James Hadar, Jack Yeksigian, Andrew Gallagher, Ryan Thompson and Eric Duhon defeated Dartmouth by 10.8 seconds, while the freshman boat, including coxswain Christopher Lawrence, Andrew Weiland, Calvin Nuthals, Tyler Dawson, Drew Miller, Alec Hub, Cody Rissman, Casey Klein Kennedy and Ben Ruble, sealed the win with a 7.27-second victory over Dartmouth.
Wisconsin faces Boston University tomorrow morning in the Jablonic Cup where they will look to win that title for the fifth consecutive time as well. Check back to UWBadgers.com for results.
