MADISON, Wis. -- Behind goals from their top three goal scorers and Scott Gudmandson's (Sherwood Park, Alberta) fourth shutout of the season, Wisconsin (13-7-3, 6-6-2) continued its winning ways with a 3-0 victory at the Kohl Center on Blake Geoffrion Night. The win extends the Badgers' winning streak to six games.

In the first ever meeting between the two teams, Canisius (6-9-4, 5-6-4 AH) held tough despite a heavy barrage of Badger shots. UW held a slim 1-0 lead through two periods, but added two third period goals to finish off the 3-0 win.

 Fast Facts
Scott Gudmandson moves to sixth on Wisconsin's all-time shutout list with his seventh career shutout.
• Gudmandson has started the team's last eight games, and is 7-1-0 over that span.
• Three Badgers; Justin Schultz, Craig Smith, and Mark Zengerle, are tied for the team lead with 27 points.

In the first period, Justin Schultz (West Kelowna, B.C.) was the first Badger to find the net. Schultz took a pass from Mark Zengerle (Rochester, N.Y.), carried into the slot, and ripped a wrist shot that deflected off a Canisius defender and over the goaltender's left shoulder at 15:33 of the period. That lead stood at just one goal through two periods, despite a 24-13 lead in shots for the Badgers.

In the third period, Wisconsin added two insurance goals. At 9:43 of the third period, Craig Smith (Madison, Wis.) carried the puck through the defense, and put a wrist shot home top shelf to extend the lead to 2-0. Jordy Murray (Faribault, Minn.) and Jake Gardiner (Minnetonka, Minn.) added assists on the play.

After receiving only one power play through the game's first 56 minutes, the Badgers made the most of the advantage they received late in the game. Two consecutive penalties gave Wisconsin 1:37 of a 5-on-3 advantage. Craig Smith sent in a shot from the point, which ricocheted off the back boards and towards the front of the net. Zengerle tipped the puck towards the crease, where Murray converted for his team-leading 13th goal of the season at 18:11 of the third period.

Playing in his eighth consecutive game, Scott Gudmandson made 18 saves to earn the shut out, and improved his record to 10-5-1. Tony Capobianco made 37 saves, but was saddled with his first loss of the season, falling to 2-1-1.

The Badgers outshot Canisius, 40-18, including a 16-5 edge in the game's final period. Wisconsin was 1-for-3 on the power play, while the Golden Griffins were held scoreless on their only power-play chance.

Team assist leader Mark Zengerle added two more to his total, giving him 24 assists on the season. Craig Smith and Jordy Murray each had one goal and one assist, while Jake Gardiner added two helpers.

Additionally, 2010 Hobey Baker Memorial Award winner Blake Geoffrion was honored on the ice in a pre-game ceremony on a night UW handed out posters of UW's first Hobey winner. He also signed autographs before the game.

The two teams face off again on Saturday night at the Kohl Center beginning at 7 p.m. The game marks Wisconsin's final non-conference affair of the season.
