MADISON, Wis. -- The University of Wisconsin women's hockey team used two third-period goals to claim a 3-1 win over the Ohio State Buckeyes on Friday night at the OSU Ice Rink. Freshmen Blayre Turnbull and Karley Sylvester scored the goals for the Badgers in the third period, both assisted by junior Brianna Decker.
The Badgers move to 10-1-0 (6-1-0-0 WCHA) on the season and sit in second place in the conference standings. Ohio State drops to 5-3-1 (5-3-1-1 WCHA) after the loss and moves to third in the conference.

Wisconsin opened the scoring just eight minutes into the first period while on the penalty kill. As the only skater back in the defensive zone, an Ohio State defenseman lost control of the puck just inside the blue line. Turnbull picked up the loose puck and deked around OSU goaltender Lisa Steffes to put in the shorthanded goal. The Badgers out-shot the Buckeyes 16-4 in the first period.
Ohio State came out tougher in the second period and turned up the pressure. With a strong forecheck, the Buckeyes congested the Badgers in their own end and eventually found a goal off a backdoor play by Kayla Sullivan to tie the game at 1-1.
With a high-tempo game in place, the Badgers' persistence paid off. At the 12:10 mark of the third period, Decker along with Brooke Ammerman, found Hilary Knight in front of the OSU net. Knight deflected a centering pass into the back of the net to give the Badgers back their one goal advantage.
A little over three minutes later, the Badgers beat Steffes again to go up by two in the waning minutes of the game. Decker and Sylvester made their way into the OSU zone on a two-on-one break. Decker looked to shoot, but fanned on the shot. This drew Steffes out of position and Decker was able to recover and make a pass to Sylvester, who tapped home her second goal of the season.
Sophomore goaltender Alex Rigsby made a total of 25 saves in the contest, recording her 10th win of the season.
The Badgers return to the OSU Ice Rink tomorrow night at 6 p.m. to finish off the weekend series.
