
More wrestling on tap beginning in April

MADISON, Wis. – The Badgers are just nine days removed from the 2011 NCAA Championships and its already time for more wrestling.
Freestyle season is rapidly approaching with volunteer assistant coach Kyle Ruschell scheduled to compete in Cleveland, Ohio next weekend.
In addition, several Wisconsin wrestlers hope to compete in four other spring events, including the FILA Junior World Trials/FILA Junior Pan Am Trials and U.S. World Team Trials.
Several Badgers are slated to open the spring season in Akron, Ohio for the University/FILA Cadet Nationals.
Post-collegiate season success is nothing new to the Badgers. Last year, Wisconsin had an spring season that saw several members of the Wisconsin wrestling program earn significant hardware.
The Cardinal and White had an outstanding showing at the 2010 ASICS U.S. Open and FILA Junior National Championships in Cleveland, Ohio. Capping off the performances, Andrew Howe took home the title in the freestyle finals at 74 kg/163 lbs and was named Most Outstanding Wrestler in freestyle, while UW assistant coach Jared Frayer was crowned champion at 66 kg/145.5 lbs and freshman Derrick Borlie took first place in the FILA Junior Nationals at 96 kg/211.5 lbs.
In addition to several other accomplishments, Howe and Frayer also slated runner-up accolades at the U.S. World Team Trials last June.
This year, several Badgers are scheduled to compete in the USA Junior and Senior Freestyle Wrestling competitions listed below.
