MADISON, Wis. -- In front of a sold-out crowd at the Kohl Center on Senior Night, Wisconsin (20-12-4, 12-13-3 WCHA) finished off the regular season by defeating Colorado College, 3-1. The senior class captured the spotlight, as senior Scott Gudmandson (Sherwood Park, Alberta) made 33 saves and senior Patrick Johnson (Madison, Wis.) scored the game-winning goal for the Badgers.

The first period finished scoreless for the second night in a row. The Badgers had a good opportunity early when Arthur Bidwell took a five-minute major penalty, but UW failed to convert on the man advantage. The Tigers (19-16-3, 13-13-2 WCHA) outshot Wisconsin 10-4 in the period, but Gudmandson held them off the scoreboard.

 Fast Facts
Justin Schultz scored his 18th goal of the season. That moves him into second place on UW's single-season goal-scoring list for defensemen, one behind the record.
Scott Gudmandson recorded his first career point with an assist.
Patrick Johnson equaled his career high in goals, and now has six goals in the last nine games.

Early in the second period, the Badgers took a lead they never relinquished. Tyler Barnes (Eagan, Minn.) was sent to the penalty box, but it was Wisconsin who capitalized. Craig Smith (Madison, Wis.) took the puck up the ice for the Badgers and carried into the offensive zone. He unleashed a shot that squeaked through the CC goaltender Josh Thorimbert, giving the Badgers a 1-0 lead 1:57 into the second period.

At 6:46 of the period, Patrick Johnson scored to extend the Badger lead to 2-0. Tyler Barnes took the puck down the ice, with Johnson trailing for a 2-on-1. Barnes sent a perfect pass across the ice, and Johnson hammered it home for the goal. The tally was UW's second in their first three shots of the period. Wisconsin had three more power-play opportunities to extend their lead, but took the 2-0 lead into the second intermission.

Halfway through the period, Colorado College cut the lead to one-goal on a fluke play. A centering pass deflected off a UW defenseman's skate, spoiling Gudmandson's shutout bid. Archie Skalbeck got the goal at 11:39 of the third period.

With the Badgers on the power play late in the game, Justin Schultz (West Kelowna, B.C.) scored his 18th goal of the season to give the Badgers an insurance goal. The puck left the offensive zone, but Schultz regained control, streaked through the defense for a self-created breakaway, and scored. Goaltender Scott Gudmandson also recorded his first career point with an assist on the play. The score held at 3-1 and the Badgers sent their seniors off with one last home victory.

Wisconsin was outshot by the Tigers 34-25. The Badgers were 1-for-7 on the power play, while holding Colorado College to 0-for-4.

Scott Gudmandson got the win for Wisconsin, making 33 saves to improve to 15-10-1. Josh Thorimbert got the loss for Colorado College, falling to 5-4-1 despite stopping 22 shots.

With the regular season concluded, the Badgers hit the road next weekend for the WCHA playoffs. These two teams will face off again with a best-of-three series held in Colorado Springs. The puck drops at 8:30 pm (CT) Friday, 8 pm (CT) Saturday, and, if necessary, 8 pm Sunday.
