Final Stats
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- The Wisconsin women’s tennis team (12-10, 3-5 Big Ten) defeated Penn State, 4-3, in its second road match of the weekend. The Badgers won four singles matches and one doubles match in their third Big Ten Conference win of the season.
PSU won the doubles point, grabbing wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Freshman Jenny Hois and Alaina Trgovich won their match at No. 1 singles against Amy Simidian and Marie Bedard, 8-6. Senior Jessica Seyferth and sophomore Hannah Berner lost just their fifth doubles match of the season at No. 2 doubles.
UW won its second match of the afternoon when freshman Nicky Stracar won a three-set victory at No. 3 singles. Stracar’s 6-1, 0-6, 6-4 win marked her second victory at the No. 3 spot.
Berner grabbed another win for Wisconsin at No. 4 singles with a 6-4, 7-6 win over Carmen Sandor.
At No. 5 singles, junior Aleksandra Markovic improved to 4-3 in Big Ten play after defeating Maria Prishlyak, 6-3, 6-3.
Senior Jessica Seyferth also notched a 6-1, 7-5 win against Bedard in her first match back at No. 6 singles since Feb. 23.
Hois lost just her fourth Big Ten singles match of her career, falling to Petra Januskova in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 1 singles.
Trgovich lost her match at No. 2 singles to Simidian, as the Nittany Lions grabbed a two-set victory, 6-4, 6-3. Trgovich holds a 9-11 record this season and is 2-8 at the No. 2 spot.
Wisconsin returns home to face Iowa and Illinois in its last regular season matches this year. The Badgers take on the Hawkeyes on Saturday, April 23 at 12 p.m. (CT) and the Illini on Sunday, April 24 at 12 p.m. (CT).
