
Badgers finish fourth at Big Ten Championships

GLENCOE, Ill. – The Wisconsin women’s golf team finished in fourth place, equaling its result from the previous season at the Big Ten Championships, held at the par 72, 6,303-yard Lake Shore Country Club. The Badgers, who led the field after the completion of the first round, shot a 303-296-305-291=1195 to finish 15 strokes behind champion Michigan State. The total was the second best 72-hole finish for the Badgers and just one off the school record of 1,194 set in 2010.
The Spartans shot a 306-290-295-289=1180, holding off Purdue (1185) down the stretch to win. Northwestern carded an 1187 to finish third.
Purdue’s Numa Gulyanamitta won the individual competition, shooting a 1-under par 74-71-71-71=287. She held off Northwestern’s Lauren Weaver (290) and Alex Lederhausen (292), who finished second and third respectively.
The Badgers had four golfers finish in the top 20 overall, including two in the top 10. Freshman Kris Yoo led the team, recording the best finish of her career. Yoo finished in seventh place, carding a 8-over par 74-77-76-69=296 that included the lowest 18-hole round of her career with a 69 in the event’s final day. The 296 tied the UW 72-hole individual record held by four others and last tied by Carlie Werwie when she tied for seventh at the 2010 Big Ten meet.
Lindsay Danielson finished the event in 10th place. She carded an 11-over par 78-75-75-71=299 which is the sixth best 72-hole score in the records. Alexis Nelson tied for 14th, carding a 14-over par 77-72-78-76=302, while Carly Werwie tied for 19th with a 15-over par 79-72-76-76=303.
Jessie Gerry shot a 75-70-85-76=315, finishing tied for 45th. Alyssa Elliott posted a 77-80-81-79=317, tying for 51st place.
The All-Championships team was named after the event, including Numa Gulyanamitta (Purdue), Lauren Weaver (NU), Alex Lederhausen (NU), Caroline Powers (MSU), Lindsey Solberg (MSU) and Laura Gonzalez (MSU).
The Big Ten Championships marks the final event of Wisconsin’s regular season schedule. The team will learn Monday whether they qualify for the NCAA tournament.
