MADISON, Wis. - On Feb. 17, 2011, former Badger goaltender Kirk Daubenspeck got into a car accident in which his car collided into a tractor-trailer in foggy conditions on his way home to Madison.
Daubenspeck sustained series head injuries and was in an extended coma following the accident. On Feb. 17, 2012, the Madison, Wis., native will walk out onto the Kohl Center ice and drop the puck before the Badgers' game against No. 10 Denver as honorary captain.
The Wisconsin hockey family - including teammates, friends, fans, staff and student-athletes - all did their part to help Daubenspeck recover from the horrific accident with personal support, contributions and fundraisers.
Now everyone will get to share in the recovery in a public way.
