Badgers in 10th after first round of Erin Hills Intercollegiate

MADISON, Wis. -- The Badger men's golf team completed the first 18 holes of the 54-hole Erin Hills Intercollegiate on Sunday, closing out round one tied for 10th at the three-day competition in Erin, Wis.
Hosted by Marquette University, the Badgers are competing against a 14-team field on the 7,234-yard, par-72 Erin Hills Golf Course. The course is the future site of the 2017 U.S. Men's Golf Open.
No. 11-ranked Stanford stands atop the leader board after the first round with an 8-under par 280, while UCLA is tied second place with SMU. Both teams recorded a 2-under par 286.
Wisconsin is tied for 10th place tying a a season-low 7-over par 295.
Three players - Marquette's Zach Gaugert, SMU's Harry Higgs and Stanford's Patrick Rodgers - are tied for first place with a 4-under par 68.
Leading the way for UW is current Big Ten Golfer of the Week Robert Jacobsen. With three birdies, the senior carded a 1-under par 71 which his second 18-hole under-par score of the season.
UW junior Jack Watson placed second for the Badgers and is tied for 33rd after recording a 1-over par 73. Sophomore Matt Ross finished the round tied for 45th place with a 3-over par 75.
Competing as an individual, freshman Tommy Schofield is tied for 59th after earning a 5-over par 77.
Also for Wisconsin, senior Zach Balit is tied for 54th place after tallying a 4-over par 76, while junior Thomas O'Bryan stands tied for 71st place with an 8-over par 80.
The Erin Hills Intercollegiate resumes on Monday with 18-holes beginning at 8:30 a.m. (CT) on the 1st tee. The tournament concludes with 18-holes on Tuesday. Live scoring and results from the second round can be found on Golfstat.com, as well as UWBadgers.com.
