Madison, Wis. -- After two rounds, South Carolina continues to lead the 54-hole Badger Invitational with an 11-under par 282-283--565 at the 7,259-yard, par 72 University Ridge Golf Course in Madison, Wis. The players endured windy conditions with gusts up to 15 miles per hour and temperatures in the 60s.
South Carolina's 36-hole total 11-uunder 282-283--565 is the third best Badger Invitational total and ties for fifth best in University Ridge records.
South Carolina's Matthew NeSmith had the best round of the day with a 5-under 67. Teammate Caleb Sturgeon, who had the top round yesterday with a record-tying 65, matched par today to retain his lead by two strokes over NeSmith with a 7-under 65-72--137. Sturgeon's score ties the second best 36-hole round of the Badger Invitational records and ties for 5th best in University Ridge records.
George Perkovich of Wofford had the second best 18-hole round today and vaulted himself from a tie for 27th yesterday into third place with a 3-under par 73-68--141.
Playing as an individual, Wisconsin's Matt Ross is tied for fourth with a career 36-hole best 1 under 72-71--143.
Robert Jacobsen and Jack Watson anchored the team with 3-over par 147. Both 36-hole scores were career marks. As a team, the Badgers lost a little ground today moving from 11th to 12th after a 307 today for a 26-over par 296-307--602.
The final 18 holes willl be played in a shotgun format beginning at 9:30 a.m. CT at University Ridge Golf Course. Results will be posted on UWBadgers.com at the conclusion of the tournament.
