Oct. 11, 2014

TEAM NOTES
•    Wisconsin’s captains today were seniors Michael Caputo, Rob Havenstein and Derek Landisch and junior Melvin Gordon. They were joined by honorary captain Joe Keenan.
•    The Badgers are now 10-1 at home under head coach Gary Andersen.
•    UW rushed for at least 400 yards for the second time this season and the third time in 19 games under Andersen. UW has accumulated 400 rushing in 19 games all time. Saturday also marked the sixth time the Badgers have ran for at least 300 yards in Andersen’s tenure.
•    Wisconsin recorded a season high with six sacks, coming from six different players (Derek Landisch, Leon Jacobs, Ben Ruechel, Konrad Zagzebski, Vince Biegel and Chikwe Obasih).
•    The Badgers now have 19 sacks through six games. UW totaled 26 sacks in 13 games a season ago.
•    With Melvin Gordon eclipsing the 1,000-yard rushing mark on the season today, UW has a 1,000-yard rusher for the 10th-straight season, the longest active streak in the nation.
•    Wisconsin has scored at least 24 points in 11 consecutive home games dating back to the 2013 home opener. That is the second-longest streak in UW history, trailing on 13 straight games with 24-plus points spanning 2010-12.

INDIVIDUAL NOTES
•    Junior RB Melvin Gordon became the fastest Badger to reach 1,000 yards in a season, surpassing the mark in UW’s sixth game of the season. Gordon (2013) and P.J. Hill (2006) both went over 1,000 yards in their seventh games. It is the second-fastest for a UW player in terms of carries. Last year Gordon went over 1,000 yards on his 105th carry. This year it was on his 122nd carry.
•    Gordon joins Rufus Ferguson (1971-72), Billy Marek (1973-74-75), Ron Dayne (1996-97-98-99), Anthony Davis (2001-02), P.J. Hill (2006-07-08), John Clay (2009-10) and Montee Ball (2011-12) as the only players in school history to run for 1,000 yards in back-to-back seasons.
•    Gordon finished with 175 yards on 27 carries, rushing for at least 140 yards for the fifth time in six games this season and the 14th time in the last 21 games.
•    Gordon scored at least four touchdowns in a game for the second time this season. He has 14 total TDs this season.
•    With his 30-yard TD run and 46-yard run in the second quarter, Gordon’s now has 10 runs of 30-plus yards this season and 19 in the last two seasons (19 games). He has eight runs of 40-plus yards this season and 14 over the last two years.
•    Sophomore RB Corey Clement rushed for a career-high 164 yards on 13 carries including a 72-yard TD run to open the fourth quarter. That is the second-longest run of Clement’s career, surpassed only by a 75-yard TD run in his second career game, against Tennessee Tech on Sept. 7, 2013.
•    Junior QB Joel Stave made his first start of the season.
•    Senior TE Sam Arneson equaled a career high with four catches for 48 yards.
•    Freshman WR Natrell Jamerson recorded his first career carry, rushing for 23 yards on the Badgers’ game-opening touchdown drive.
•    Freshman LB Leon Jacobs made his first career start at inside linebacker, in place of the injured Marcus Trotter. He recorded a career-high 12 tackles, including his first career sack.
•    After playing 36 games in his career, senior S Peniel Jean made his first career start, in place of the injured Lubern Figaro.
•    Jean also recorded his first career interception, picking off Aaron Bailey in the fourth quarter.
•    Senior LB Ben Ruechel recorded his first career sack, stopping Illinois QB Reilly O’Toole early in the second quarter.
•    Senior DL Konrad Zagzebski, playing in his 37th career game, recorded his first career sack.
•    Senior WR Kenzel Doe has six punt returns this season of 15-plus yards. Each one has led to a Wisconsin touchdown. His 15-yard return at the end of the third quarter directly preceded Clement’s 72-yard TD run.
•    Redshirt sophomore LB Vince Biegel tallied career highs with six tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss and a half sack.
•    Redshirt freshman DE Chikwe Obasih recorded 1.0 sack on the day, the first full sack of his career.
