DULUTH, Minn. -- After trailing for the first time all season, the No. 2 Wisconsin women's hockey team rallied, scoring four goals in a 6 minute, 58 second span, to defeat No. 10 Minnesota Duluth, 6-2 on Saturday night at AMSOIL Arena.

Senior captain Blayre Turnbull and sophomore Sarah Nurse each tallied two goals to help the Badgers (4-0-0, 2-0-0 WCHA) complete the sweep of the Bulldogs (1-2-1, 0-2-0 WCHA).

Fast Facts
• The Badgers are a perfect 14-14 on the penalty kill this year.
• Freshman Annie Pankowski tallied two assists, giving her seven assists in four games this season.
• The Badgers have outshot their opponents by a total of 179-68 so far this year.

"They're good players," UW head coach Mark Johnson said about Turnbull and Nurse. "They work hard and it's nice to see them get rewarded by their efforts. I think if you can spread the scoring around and different people become threats and become a much more difficult team to play against so it was nice to get those kids on the board tonight and certainly will help with their confidence."

Senior Karley Sylvester and sophomore Mellissa Channell also scored to help the Badgers complete only their third-ever sweep of the Bulldogs in Duluth.

"It's a huge weekend for us," Turnbull said. "It was the first weekend with our full team together and it's always a battle coming up here in Duluth, no matter how good their team is or how good our team is, they always give us two really, really hard games. They did the same thing this weekend, despite the scores they still played us hard and played well I think, but it's great to sweep no matter where you are."

During the series, UW outscored UMD 10-3 and outshot the Bulldogs 77-39.

"We had six good periods," Johnson said. "Obviously the second period tonight opened up the door for us, the power play was able to capitalize and I thought our depth helped us out tonight.

"It was a good weekend. You know it's early in the season and after four games, and having everybody back for this weekend you know we start going."

UMD's Zoe Hickel opened the game's scoring, beating UW goaltender Ann-Renée Desbiens on a one-timer with under seven minutes left in the first.

The Badgers came back fast and furious, scoring two goals at the end of the first and two more early on in the second period to distance themselves from the Bulldogs.

Turnbull tallied her first goal of the year, beating UMD netminder Kayla Black off a scramble to tie the game at 1 with under two minutes remaining in the first. Nurse capitalized on a beautiful pass from Sydney McKibbon as she beat Black from the point to give UW a 2-1 lead with just 30 seconds remaining in the first.

Nurse wasn't done, scoring her second of the game on a Badger power play to give UW a 3-1 advantage four minutes into the second period. A minute later, Sylvester recorded her third goal of the season to cap off an impressive stretch of hockey for Wisconsin.

Channell also scored late in the second on a UW power play to give the Badgers a 5-1 lead.

After an early UMD goal in the third, Turnbull scored her second of the game to propel Wisconsin to a 6-2 win.

Desbiens saved 22 of the 24 shots she faced to earn her second win of the season.

UW has won seven of the past eight meetings between the two teams as the Badgers now lead the overall series 33-29-11.

Tonight marked Nurse's first career multi-goal game at UW, after scoring 11 goals during her freshman season at Wisconsin

"Obviously it's a great feeling to get some points under your belt," Nurse said. "But I think it's a better feeling to come home with the sweep and look forward to next weekend."

Wisconsin hosts Ohio State next weekend at LaBahn Arena. Faceoff on Friday is set for 7 p.m., while Sunday's faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.

"Every weekend we want to improve so we've made some strides from Lindenwood to this weekend," Johnson said. "Now we have to make some more strides as we get ready for the Buckeyes."
