SAN ANTONIO, Tex. -- The women's golf team made a statement to end its fall season by scoring a season-best 18-hole score in the final round of the Jim West Tournament.
After coming in 10th out of 12 teams yesterday, the Badgers pulled themselves up to fifth place with a 42-over 316-300-290 in the 54-hole tournament. Due to the threat of severe weather the tournament was cut short by a dayresulting in 36 holes of golf being played on Monday, November 3 instead of the 18 that was originally scheduled.
The third-round score of 290 tied Houston for the best round of the day and is the eighth best 18-hole score in school history.
Both
Gabby Curtis and
Kimberly Dinh led the Badgers in this tournament tying for 13th with a 9-over 225. Dinh was only one of four in the field to and the only one in round 3 to break 70 with a final round of 69, which ties her career-best 18-hole score.
On top of being only one of two Badgers scoring in the 60's this fall season, Dinh has placed first or second in all five tournaments.
Brooke Ferrell made a comeback from yesterday, scoring a 73 and a 76 today on top of 83 to improve to tied for 28th with 232.
One stroke behind Ferrell,
Aaren Ziegler and
Ali Nageotte came in tied for 33rd with a 17-over 233. Freshman Nageotte tied her 18-hole best with a 71, the third round of the tournament.
Becky Klongland, competing individually, followed close behind tied for 40th, scoring a pair of 79's today to bring her to 18-over 234.
Winning the tournament, No. 22 Texas A&M scored 20 strokes ahead of the Badgers with a 886. Wad Phaewchimplee from Kent State was the only one under par shooting a 2-under 214.
The spring season commences in February in Orlando, Florida at the UCF Challenge.
