ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The Wisconsin women's golf team tied for ninth at +53 in its season opener on Monday at the Wolverine Invitational in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Over the two-day event, The Badgers shot a three-round score of 905 to earn their first top-10 finish of the season.
Senior
Alexia Siehl was the biggest riser on moving day, going +1 on the card with a birdie on each nine. She moved up 12 spots in the individual rankings to finish 29th.
True freshman
Grace Slocum moved up six places in her debut, shooting the Badgers' second-lowest round of the day at +4. She used an even-par back-nine to score for the Badgers in all three rounds.
Maryland transfer
Tammy Wu finished 33rd, posting a final-round 77 and shooting +12 in her first UW start.
Sophomore
Lauren Sammon wrapped up her tournament in 57th at +18 overall, while
Kate Brody scored for the Badgers with a +5 third-round, finishing in 65th.
From the Course -- Head Coach Todd Oehrlein: "I thought we played well in stretches. The golf course at Michigan is always a demanding place, so it was great to see how our young players managed the setup. We definitely need to drive the ball better moving forward, but it was great to get some experience for so many new players. We'll turn our attention to hosting next weekend, and it will be great to be at University Ridge."
Up Next: The Badgers play host next Sunday-Tuesday for the annual Badger Invitational at University Ridge. Admission is open and free to the public, with parking first-come-first-serve at the clubhouse. Tee times will be set at a later date.
