MADISON, Wis. -- For the second week in a row, UW goaltender Ann-Renée Desbiens has been recognized by the WCHA as the sophomore was named the WCHA Co-Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
Desbiens, who sports a 12-2-1 record this season, shares this week's honors with Minnesota Duluth netminder Kayla Black. It marks the third time this year that Desbiens has received the honor.
The La Malbaie, Quebec, native stopped 32 shots on the weekend as the Badgers earned a pair of 5-0 wins over the Wildcats on the road. Desbiens has earned shutouts in her last four games and has six on the season. She has been instrumental in helping Wisconsin set a school record as the Badgers have not allowed a goal in 330 minutes, 56 seconds.
Her six shutouts this year are tied for the most in the WCHA, while her winning percentage of .833 ranks fifth nationally. Her goals-against average of 1.32 also leads the WCHA and ranks sixth nationally.
Desbiens and the No. 3 Badgers close out the first part of their schedule before their semester break this weekend when they host North Dakota at LaBahn Arena. Faceoff on Friday is scheduled for 3 p.m., while Sunday's series finale will begin at 2 p.m.
