MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin softball team opens its fall season on Sunday, Sept. 21, when the Badgers host Green Bay for a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m., and followed by the day's second game at 2 p.m.
UW returns 14 members from last year's team, which advanced to the NCAA regional championship for the second-straight season and the second time in program history. Wisconsin finished the season with 36 wins, the second-highest total in school history.
Notable returners include sophomores Chloe Miller and Sara Novak, who each earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week accolades last season. Junior Taylor-Paige Stewart will return to the circle after rewriting the records book last season with her .682 winning percentage, which ranked third at UW for a single-season best.
This will be the first chance for fans to watch head coach Yvette Healy's young squad, which welcomes six newcomers to the field. The Badgers graduated four seniors with remarkable careers, who went down as the winningest class in UW history with a record of 144-75.
"We're really excited to see how our freshmen will perform," Healy said. "We graduated an outstanding senior class. We have a pretty young team so it will be good to see how everyone will compete."
Following Sunday's exhibition, the Badgers host another set of games next weekend when they face Highland College (Sept. 26) and Kirkland Community College (Sept. 28). The fall schedule concludes when UW-Parkside visits Goodman Diamond on Oct. 12.
