MADISON, Wis. – Fresh off a striking career at Notre Dame, Joanna Poinsatte was named graduate assistant of the Wisconsin women’s rowing program, head coach Bebe Bryans announced Monday.
“We are really excited to bring Joanna into the Badger family,” Bryans said.
“As a recent graduate of Notre Dame, Joanna brings a lot of high level experience to the team. We are looking forward to adding her to our coaching group and sharing her excitement about the new year and the new era of Wisconsin rowing.”
In 2012-13, as a senior, Poinsatte rowed with the first varsity eight boat for the Fighting Irish, competing in the NCAA tournament and helping her team to a 10th-straight BIG EAST title.
Rowing with the varsity four during her junior season, the Chattanooga, Tennessee, product guided the Fighting Irish to the title of BIG EAST Crew of the Week on two occasions.
She rowed for the varsity four boat at the NCAA championships, placing second behind UCLA in the petite finals to secure an eighth place finish overall in the 16-boat field.
In her first two years at ND, Poinsatte rowed with the varsity four, second varsity four, second varsity eight and third varsity eight, picking up numerous wins, including a first-place finish at the BIG EAST Championship with both the varsity four (freshman) and second varsity eight (sophomore).
She was named to the conference’s all-academic team all four years and earned Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete honors as a sophomore, junior and senior.
Working as an assistant rowing coach in Tennessee at Girls Preparatory School and Southeast Juniors Development Camp, Poinsatte prepared athletes for races at USRowing Club Nationals.
She graduated in May 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from the Notre Dame College of Arts and Letters and is currently working on a master’s degree in the Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis program.
