UW finishes fourth in final round of match play

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The Wisconsin Women’s Golf finished fourth at the inaugural East & West Match Play Challenge Sept. 20-22 held at the University of Michigan course in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

The top-ranked Buckeyes beat the Badgers 3-2 to claim third place in the match play team competition. OSU won the 36-hole stroke play part of the event with an 8-over 584 to claim the top seed.

The Badgers were third in stroke play with with a 20-over 596 to claim the third seed in the 8-team match play portion of the tournament. The Badgers lost 3-2 to No. 2 seed UC Davis on Sunday.

Aya Johnson and Aaren Ziegler were victorious in their matches today. Johnson beat OSU's Claudia Lim handily 4&3. Ziegler pulled the match out on the 18th hole winning over Jan Chanpalangsri, 1-up.

Playing as an individual, freshman Becky Klongland won her match over Laura Hendee of Miami 2&1 to finish fifth. Also playing in 3rd & 4th place individual matchup was freshman Ali Nageotte who lost to Catherine Peters of Michigan 3&1 to finish fourth.

The Badgers will host this tournament in Madison at University Ridge next September.
