Badgers looking to continue strong fall season play on Friday

MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin softball team continues its fall season on Friday, when the Badgers bat off against Highland College beginning at 6 p.m. at Goodman Diamond.
The Badgers opened their season on Sept. 21 with a sweep, defeating Green Bay with a pair of wins.
UW defeated the Phoenix 9-0 in game one of its doubleheader, with junior Ashley Van Zeeland leading the way after scoring three times. Freshman Kelsey Jenkins, who is one of six newcomers to Wisconsin’s squad, added two runs in her debut as a Badger.
Sophomores Chloe Miller and Sara Novak, freshman Brianna Flugaur and senior Megan Tancill each recorded a run, while freshman pitcher Mariah Watts made her Badger debut with an impressive performance on the mound.
Wisconsin secured their second victory of the day in game two, topping Green Bay 9-1. Sophomore Nyah Rodman started on the hill for UW, striking out two in the first inning.
Jenkins and senior Maria Van Abel each contributed two runs in the Badgers’ win, while Miller, Novak, Tancill, Van Zeeland and senior Marissa Mersch each recorded one score.
Following Friday’s matchup, the Badgers host Kirkland Community College on Sunday, Sept. 25, in a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. The second game will follow and start at 2 p.m. UW closes out its fall schedule with a doubleheader against UW-Parkside at Goodman Diamond on Oct. 12.
