MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin men's hockey team (2-15-3, 0-5-1-1) was swept by No. 16 Michigan (15-7-0, 7-1-0-0), losing the series finale, 6-0, Saturday at the Kohl Center.

 Fast Facts
• UW went 2-for-2 on the penalty kill
• Wisconsin outshot Michigan, 8-7, in the third period
• A season-high 13,699 fans attended the game

Following the opener Friday in which Wisconsin played its best first period of the season, the Badgers came out flat Saturday, allowing two goals in the opening 2:03 of the contest. The hot start by Michigan prompted UW head coach Mike Eaves to pull starting goaltender Joel Rumpel in exchange for backup Landon Peterson.

The Wolverines added two more tallies near the end of the frame to go up 4-0.

The first appeared to catch Peterson by surprise, as a Tony Calderone shot from the bottom of the right faceoff circle somehow snuck through the UW netminder's pads.

Zach Werenski capped Michigan's impressive 20 minutes with a wrist-shot score.

The Badgers mounted a few good chances on a first-period power play, including a booming slapper by Jack Dougherty that rung the right post, but were unable to convert.

Rumpel returned to the crease for the start of the second period.

Michigan scored once in the second, as Zach Hyman stepped out of the left corner, skated just outside the goal crease and backhanded one around Rumpel. Hyman finished with two tallies, giving him 16 on the year.

Werenski scored again in the third on a sniper from the bottom left faceoff circle, which found room over Rumpel's short-side shoulder. It was the freshman's fifth goal of 2014-15.

Rumpel (25) and Peterson (13) combined for 38 saves, while Wolverines' goalie Zach Nagelvoort recorded (17) stops.

Wisconsin plays the second half of the Border Battle next weekend at the Kohl Center, as Minnesota comes to town. Both games will appear on BTN with an 8 p.m. Friday opener and 7 p.m. Saturday game.
