Punter honored as Special Teams Player of the Week for performance against Illinois
MADISON, Wis. – Senior punter Drew Meyer was named Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week after his outstanding performance in Wisconsin's 24-13 win at Illinois last Saturday.Â
Meyer averaged a season-best 46.8 yards per punt against the Illini and placed three of his five punts inside the 20-yard line. In the second half, Illinois' average starting field position after Meyer's three punts was its own 10.4 yard line.
Meyer also recorded three 50-yard punts for the second time this season, and the third time in his career.
The award is the first weekly honor for Meyer and marks the first time a Badger has been named Special Teams Player of the Week by the league since punter Brad Nortman picked up the accolade on Oct. 25, 2010.
Meyer is the fourth Badger to be honored by the conference this season. T.J. Edwards (Oct. 19) and Taiwan Deal (Sept. 28) were both named Freshman of the Week while Joe Schobert earned co-Defensive Player of the Week honors on Oct. 5.
