Badgers earn best finish of the season in prestigious tournament

UW finishes sixth in 11-team Erin Hills Intercollegiate

Hartford, Wis. — On Day 3 of the 54-hole Erin Hills Intercollegiate, Tuesday, at Erin Hills Golf Course, the Wisconsin men's golf team went 10-over to finish in sixth at an 18-over 296-288-298=882.
UW trailed Marquette in fifth by six strokes and led seventh-place New Mexico by a mere shot, as the teams recorded an identical third round. The finish was the Badgers' best of the year.
The teams in first through fourth remained in the same position following round 2. SMU (280-288-283=851) took the crown at 13-under; Oklahoma State (-11, 282-290-281=853) was second, UCLA (-7, 289-286-282=857) finished in third and Ole Miss (+4, 296-282-290=868) placed fourth.
The host team, Marquette (+12, 290-296290=876), was the lone team to move up on Tuesday, as it jumped two spots from seventh to fifth with a 2-over 290 in the final round.
Michael Abrahamson was the Badgers' top golfer at an even par 69-72-75=216 for the tournament, which marked a new career-low for 54 holes. He finished in a tie for 14th.
Eddie Wajda III (73-74-73=220) was not far behind at 4-over and tied for 24th. He tied with Jordan Hahn for the best third-round score on the team with a 1-over 73. Wajda's 54-hole total of 220 marked a new season-low.
Hahn tied for 31st at a 7-over 78-72-73=223, while Matt Ross (+10, 76-73-77=226) wrapped up the competition three strokes behind in a tie for 38th.
Johnny Decker rounded out Wisconsin's team scoring at a 14-over 79-71-80=230. The sophomore placed tied for 52nd.
Among UW's individual competitors, Ben Skogen tied for 28th and Brett Robinson tied with Decker for 52nd. Skogen (71-77-74=222) was 6-over for the tournament and Robinson went for a a 14-over 75-80-75=230.
Wisconsin will take two weeks off from competition before taking part in Intercollegiate at The Grove, Oct. 25-27, in College Grove, Tenn., at The Grove Golf Course.
