Frosh goaltender backstopped Badgers to split at No. 1 North Dakota
MADISON, Wis. – For the second time in as many weeks, freshman goaltender Matt Jurusik (La Grange, Illinois) has earned recognition as one of the Big Ten Stars of the Week.
One week after garnering third-star honors, Jurusik nabbed second star of the week accolades after posting a .941 save percentage and a 2.04 goals-against average to help the Badgers to a road split at then-No. 1 North Dakota.
Jurusik stopped 29 UND shots on Friday in the Badgers' 3-1 victory, including 12 saves in the third period. The win for UW ended UND's 12-game home unbeaten streak, as well as UND's 17-game, non-conference unbeaten streak. It also snapped the Badgers' seven-game winless streak against North Dakota.
The rookie returned to the ice on Saturday to make 35 more saves, but the Badgers dropped a 3-1 decision. In the game, Jurusik helped the Badgers kill off all seven UND power plays, including a pair of five-on-three power plays that totaled 1:49 of game time.
Jurusik and the Badgers (3-4-3) are off this week, but return to the ice on Nov. 20-21 to play host to No. 8 Denver at the Kohl Center. During Saturday's game, the 1981 NCAA Championship team will be honored for the 35th anniversary of Wisconsin's third of six national championships.
Also on Sunday, Nov. 22, Wisconsin will hold its annual Skate with the Badgers from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the Kohl Center. Â
