Postgame Quotes
Wisconsin vs. Indiana
Feb. 3, 2015
Kohl Center- Madison, Wis.

Wisconsin Head Coach Bo Ryan
On if the plan was to get the ball into the lane and whether the team executed effectively:
"Yes, but you still have to finish on the shot. I think our team made some tough shots inside. We were 19-for-24 from the starters in the three, four and five positions. We had to have that, because we knew that they were going to hit some 3s. We made our run in the second half and they made their run. I was kind of glad ours was first. The game kind of played out the way we thought, and I don't know how coach (Tom) Crean feels, but they did their thing, we did our thing, and we just happened to do a little bit better on our possessions. I think it was 1.4 points per possession for us and over one for them."

On how Frank Kaminsky adjusted to Indiana's defensive play:
"Frank's a tough matchup, so people have done different things and he's smart enough, agile enough and astute enough to be able to recognize some things. His teammates have done a good job recognizing how to get the ball into him, because he has got to be part of the offense, and he has been all year except for the game when he wasn't in."

On Zak Showalter's development:
"Zak is just a guy that is playing so hard. He's smart, obviously with having his dad coach. He takes advantage of opportunities and he doesn't sulk. So many guys that aren't playing have bad body language and their demeanor is not conducive to doing anything positive for their team."

Wisconsin Player Quotes

Frank Kaminsky

On the importance of getting the ball inside and how they performed:
"I think we did really well. Our offense ran through the posts tonight. We knew we had a size advantage and we knew we had to take advantage of it. I think we did a good job feeding the posts. We went away from it for a little bit. Once we got back into it, it was pretty good."

On if they would've liked to keep their big lead until the end:
"Yeah. When we did push out that lead, they didn't hit their 3s. They hit 8-of-11 (3-pointers) in the first half. 5-of-13 (3-pointers) isn't bad in the second half, but it felt like they hit all five of those in a row. We might've stepped off the gas a little bit and kind of relaxed. They took advantage of it, but we were able to have a huge cushion that whatever they did would've really been hard for them to come back from."

On how big their runs were to the outcome of the game:
"It was huge. With the way they shot and got themselves back into the game, if we didn't have that lead, who knows what happens. We were able to go on a run and kind of break the game open. We would've liked to finish the game stronger than we did, but we gave ourselves a nice lead and were able to really push it out. We were in the driver's seat the whole game."

Nigel Hayes

On Zak Showalter's contribution to the team:
"He does do a lot things that you don't see, as far as in practice. When he gets in, like he said himself, he tries to bring energy. He does the things that not everyone wants to do, such as taking charges, or getting hit with a screen like he did, or diving on the floor - things like that that give the crowd and us energy. Really, those are the plays that win championships and we need that."

Zak Showalter

On how it feels to contribute to the team:
"It was fun. I've kind of been waiting for this. I kind of bring energy like I always do. Frank and Nigel seemed to be open every time I touched the ball, so I tried to hit those guys. It felt good to be out there and I had some good flashbacks of this action."

On the fans getting loud in the Kohl Center after big plays:
"I think that's what they want to do. I'm just trying to give them something to react to and when I can do that, it feels really good. I'm just trying to bring energy to the game. If I can get the Kohl Center doing that, I think that helps us in the long run."

Indiana Head Coach Tom Crean
On his opening statement:
"For us, we were right in it at halftime and after a tough start our guys adjusted to not having James (Blackmon Jr.), which really became a just-before-the-game type of decision. He tried to go and today was his first day. He didn't practice these last two days, so he tried to go on our walk through today and then he tried to go before the game, but it just wasn't there with his ankle, which he injured in Saturday's game against Rutgers. We got off to a slow start, we got it right back where it needed to be, and then we just didn't have the same activity and aggressiveness that we needed to have to start the second half. Certainly it's very easy to look at it in the sense of how we finished the game. Whatever time that was where I think we scored 30 points on 13 possessions or some number like that. I wish we had that continued aggressiveness and activity on the defensive end, or else the second half may have been a different story. Our guys continued to battle and we learned a little bit about that. We also learned that you cannot let a very good team like Wisconsin play at their comfort level throughout the game. We needed to make it a tougher game on the ball. Certainly their size is their size, and our size is our size, but man zone combination defense, whatever it was, we needed to do a better job of pressuring the ball and making it tougher for the ball to get inside. We didn't do as good of a job in that. They took advantage of that. Good win for them."
