Three Badgers earn All-America honors

ST.LOUIS, Mo.--Three Badgers snagged All-American honors after the fourth session, marking the program's most All-Americans in a single season since 2011. The Wisconsin wrestling program now boasts 108 All-America honors and 68 All-Americans.
Wisconsin sits in the No. 16 spot with 27.0 team points. Ohio State has a steady lead in the front with 86.5 points. Iowa, Cornell, Edinboro and Missouri round out the top five respectively.
Connor Medbery was downed by the No. 1 seed Nick Gwiazdowski in the semifinals. Gwiazdowski entered the match with an unscathed 33-0 record and Medbery made him fight to keep it that way.
Gwiazdowski scored the only two takedowns of the bout. Gwiazdowski struck first with a takedown in the first period and led 2-0 until Medbery escaped at the end to make it 2-1 headed into the second period. Medbery started in the down position to start the second period and escaped within seconds to tie it up 2-2.
The two heavyweights were deadlocked 2-2 in a thrilling battle at the end of two periods. Gwiazdowski took the upper hand by scoring an escape and then following by getting in on the single leg for a takedown. Medbery escaped one more time but it was not enough as Gwiazdowski clinched the win with the riding time point, 6-3.
The sophomore qualifiers made sure to earn their All-America honors in heart-stopping fashion. Sophomore Isaac Jordan became a two-time All-American after his 8-6 upset in sudden victory over Iowa State's No.2-seeded Michael Moreno. Sophomore Ryan Taylor earned his first All-America honor after defeating Nebraska's Eric Montoya with a 3-1 decision in sudden victory.
Jordan fell in an 11-6 decision to Virginia's Nick Sulzer and will wrestle Stanford's Jim Wilson for the seventh place spot tomorrow.
After trailing at the end, Taylor was pinned by at 6:59 by Lehigh's Mason Beckman.
197-pounder Timmy McCall just missed out on a chance for his first All-America honor after falling to Michigan's Max Huntley by decision,7-2 , in a fourth-round consolation bout.
Session V of the 2015 NCAA Wrestling Championships is set to begin at 10 a.m. (CT) Saturday with the consolation semifinals followed by the third-, fifth- and seventh-place matches. The parade of All-Americans will last from 6:35 p.m. until 6:50 p.m. Session VI, consisting of the championship final matches, starts at 7 p.m.
