MADISON, Wis. -- After an impressive last weekend on the road, the Wisconsin women's tennis team was determined to bring its high level of play home to Madison. The Badgers did that with a dominant 6-1 victory over Big Ten Rival Nebraska.

The Cardinal and White initially got off to a slow start, as Wisconsin (9-7, 3-3 B1G) struggled early, dropping a pair of doubles matches to fall behind Nebraska (12-7, 0-6 B1G) 1-0.

"Today was a day" Head coach Tina Samara started, "that was really a step backwards to me in doubles. The good news in this sport is that it doesn't have to stay that way the whole match. You have another opportunity to prove that to everyone in the building that you are a team that puts in a good effort."

Following the doubles point, the Badgers rattled off wins in all six singles matches. One of those wins was a thrilling 12-10 tiebreak win in the shortened third set for Lauren Burich over Nebraska's Katerina Matysova on the fourth court.

"This match," Samara said, "was probably the most decisive singles wins we've had as a team."

The Badgers began singles play by taking the match on court 5, as Sydney Rider defeated Lisa Andersson. The Badgers then clinched the match with Lauren Chypyha's top court victory over Nebraska's Maggie Lemicke, 6-3, 6-2.

It was the first time all season the Badgers have tallied a victory after losing the doubles point, and it is the third straight victory for the Badgers in conference play.

Maria Avgerinos notched a victory over Nebraska's second player, Izabella Zgierska, 6-3, 6-4, while Ekaterina Stepanova cruised to victory on the third court over Mary Hanna, 6-0, 6-3.

The Badgers take to the court once again this Sunday, April 5, at noon against Iowa.
