MADISON, Wis. – While most of the Wisconsin track and field team has the weekend off from competition, seven UW multi-event athletes hit the road to Cedar Falls, Iowa, to compete at the Jack Jennett Invitational, hosted by the University of Northern Iowa.
The men's heptathlon begins on Friday with the 60-meter dash at 11:15 a.m., while the pentathlon 60-meter hurdles start at noon. The heptathlon high jump wraps up the first day of the seven-discipline event on Friday at 2:45 p.m. and the pentathlon wraps up on Friday with the 800 meters at approximately 5:55 p.m.
The final three events of the heptathlon start on Saturday at 10 a.m. with the 60 hurdles and wrap up with the 1000-meter run at approximately 1:50 p.m.
Those traveling to the meet include multi-event athletes
Charlie Foss,
Brandon Mortensen,
Trent Nytes,
Sawyer Smith, and
Zach Ziemek of the men's team, and Georgia Ellenwood and Casie Pawlik of the women's squad.
Ziemek recently came off of a dominating performance in the pole vault during last week's dual against Minnesota with a clearance of 17 feet, 3/4 inches (5.20m). A two-time All-American in the indoor pentathlon, Ziemek looks to chase his third All-America honors in the event.
Foss scored in the heptathlon at the 2014 Big Ten Indoor Track and Field Championships, while Smith just missed scoring in the event at last year's indoor championships with a ninth-place showing. Nytes will make his multi-event debut for UW this weekend in Cedar Falls.
Ellenwood, a first-team All-American in the pentathlon last year, also had a strong showing at Minnesota with a second place finish in the long jump where she tied her personal best with a leap of 19-9 (6.02m). She also placed third in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.78 seconds where she nearly matched her personal record.
Pawlik will compete in her second-ever pentathlon after scoring in the heptathlon during the 2015 Big Ten Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
