CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – In her first pentathlon of the year, Wisconsin women's track and field sophomore
Georgia Ellenwood did not disappoint, winning the event with a personal-best score of 4,295 points on Friday at the Jack Jennett Invitational.
After just missing a personal best in the 60 hurdles, Ellenwood set personal bests in the high jump, shot put, long jump and 800 meters to set a personal-best score in the pentathlon. The Langley, British Columbia, native just missed the school record of 4,299 points in the event set by Dorcas Akinniyi in 2012.
Casie Pawlik also fared well in her first pentathlon of the indoor campaign, taking 10th with 3,457 points.
In the 60 hurdles, Ellenwood took third in 8.77 seconds, just missing her personal best of 8.75 in the event. Pawlik took seventh in 8.97 seconds.
Ellenwood set her first personal-best mark of the day in the high jump, soaring 5 feet, 10 1/2 inches, which is tied for the fifth-best jump in program history. Pawlik cleared 4-9 1/2 to earn 577 points.
In the shot put, Ellenwood again set a personal best with a toss 39-6 to finish third, while Pawlik was 10th with a throw of 34-0 3/4.
Ellenwood's third personal-best mark came in the long jump with a mark of 19-9 1/2 to win the event. Her jump ranks sixth in program history. Pawlik also set a personal-best in the event with a jump of 18-11 3/4 to place third.
In the 800 meters, Ellenwood won the run, clocking in at 2:18.26, while Pawlik crossed the line in 2:35.36.
The Badgers continue indoor competition next weekend as they travel to New York City to take part in the Armory Collegiate Invitational.
