MADISON, Wis. – In the final race of the fall season, the Wisconsin women's rowing team finished in the top third of the women's championship eights competition at the Head of the Charles on Sunday.
Â
The boat, which finished ninth out of 33 entries and seventh amongst American colleges and universities, was coxed by
Lily Hansen and finished with a time of 17:26.443 over three miles.
"Racing went well today," head coach
Bebe Bryans said. "We accomplished what we came here for, which was to try to work on our strengths a little bit and try to find out what our weaknesses are. I think we got a really good idea of what those things. It was a solid performance and they handled the conditions really well."
Â
Cambridge won the women's championship eights with a time of 16:30.368, with New York Athletic Club coming in second, 15 seconds behind Cambridge. Yale rounded out the top-three by finishing two seconds behind New York AC.
Â
This was the second of two days on the Charles River, with the women's club fours finishing second out of 59 entries yesterday, their best-ever finish in the race.
Â
The Head of the Charles regatta marks the conclusion of a very successful fall for the women's rowing team, one in which saw them sweep all six races they competed in at the Head of the Rock regatta as well as winning two competitions at the Milwaukee River Challenge.
"We learned a lot and we're looking forward to getting back out on the water and getting faster," Bryans said. Â
