
Badgers open with top-20 rankings in first coaches poll

Wisconsin women tabbed at No. 13, men at No. 17 in season’s first CSCAA rankings
MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin swimming and diving program is once again expected to be one of the top teams in the nation, according to the season's first coaches poll.

This season's first edition of the College Swimming Coaches Association of America/TYR Top 25 places the Wisconsin women 13th in the nation with 142 votes and the Badgers men in the 17th position, garnering 93 votes.

The Badgers are among five Big Ten Conference programs to earn preseason rankings, joining Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota and Ohio State – with the Indiana men and the Michigan women taking the No. 1 spots in the rankings.

Penn State also received votes in the women's poll.

The Badgers have put together an impressive dual-meet schedule this season, with five of their six opponents voted among the Top 25 programs in the nation. Â

Wisconsin hosted No. 10/10 (men/women) Auburn in its first dual meet of the year, with the Tigers coming away with a pair of close wins over the Badgers.

The following week, the Wisconsin women downed No. 16-ranked Minnesota, 158-142, in Minneapolis, while the UW men fell to the 12th-ranked Gophers, 185-115.

The Badgers' most recent dual meet was at NC State, a program which has both its men's and women's teams ranked in the top four.

The No. 3 NC State men topped the Badgers, 224-121, while the No. 4 Wolfpack women came out on top, 200-149.

The Badgers' strong slate continues, with UW traveling to Georgia next weekend to take on the No.7/No. 8 Bulldogs, in addition to a January dual at No. 14/No. 5 USC.
