
Badgers claw their way to 15th place in second day of Cougar Classic

Ferrell, Zeng shoot in the 60s to lead UW
HANAHAN, S.C. -- Propelled by strong showings from senior Brooke Ferrell and sophomore Nat Zeng, the Wisconsin women's golf team surged up three spots to 15th place through 36 holes of the Cougar Classic at the Yeamans Hall Club.
Ferrell (75-67=142) led the Badgers and bounced back from a slow first round to shoot a 5-under 67 and jump 54 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for 18th. In a tie for 21st place at 1-under, Zeng (74-69=143) shot a 3-under 69 to record new career 18 and 36-hole lows.
UW (301-288=589) shaved 13 strokes off the first round's total to register an even par 288 on the round and sits at 13-over through 36 holes.
Junior Becky Klongland's (75-76=151) 4-over 76 moved her into a tie for 86th place. In her season debut, sophomore Jessica Reinecke (79-76=155) improved upon yesterday's round by firing off a 4-over 76 to slide up to a tie for 98th place. Junior Gabby Curtis (77-80=157) sits in 103rd place at 13-over.
In team standings, Furman (-18) held on to the lead while North Carolina (-17) trails, just one stroke back. UCF (-9), Wake Forest (-9), Michigan (-6), Florida State (-5), South Carolina (-2), Auburn (E), Louisville (+1) and Arkansas (+5) round out the top 10.
In 11th place, Maryland (+6) is seven strokes ahead of the Badgers while 12th-place North Carolina State is just six. Both Penn State and Chattanooga are 9-over to be tied for 13th place.
Wisconsin leads Mississippi State (+14), Coastal Carolina (+17), Clemson (+19), Charleston Southern (+21) and Indiana (+21).
Tuesday's final round will begin at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start. Live scoring can be found at golfstat.com.
