Gifford Collegiate follows NCAA Championship final format
MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin men's golf team will get a taste of the NCAA Championship final format as it wraps up the fall season at the Gifford Collegiate in Napa, California, from Nov. 7-9.
Â
Held at the Silverado Resort and Spa North Course, the par 72, 6,793-yard course is the current home of the PGA Tour's Safeway Open.
Â
Play will begin on Monday with 36 holes of stroke play. Based on the top five stroke play scores from every team, Tuesday's round will then be split into two separate brackets for two rounds of match play. On Wednesday, each team will compete for the match play championship or consolation titles.
Â
Competing for the Badgers are senior Ben Skogen, junior Eddie Wajda, sophomores Brett Robinson and Jordan Hahn as well as freshmen Nick Robinson and Pete Kuhl.
Â
UW will face steep competition as five teams are ranked within Golfweek's top 50. The Badgers will take on No. 9 Stanford, No. 12 USC, No. 20 Colorado, No. 37 Northwestern, No. 49 UCLA, Washington and South Florida.
Â
At the Marquette Invitational, the Badgers placed seventh as Nick Robinson tied for 16th and Hahn finished three strokes behind for 25th to lead UW. Wisconsin's best finish of the season so far came at the Badger Invitational as a strong final round boosted UW up to fourth place. Brett Robinson also competed most recently at the Pinetree Invitational, where he tied for 37th as an individual.
Â
Each day will tee off at 9:30 a.m. with a split-tee start. Live scoring can be followed at golfstat.com.
