
Six Badgers invited to 2016 USA Hockey Women’s Winter Training Camp

Two current and four former players invited to attend
MADISON, Wis. - Current Wisconsin women's hockey players Annie Pankowski and Jenny Ryan, along with former Badgers Brianna Decker, Meghan Duggan, Hilary Knight and Alex Rigsby earned invites for the 2016 USA Hockey Women's Winter Training Camp, USA Hockey announced Tuesday.
The camp is set to take place Dec. 12-15 at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Michigan. It features 37 players, including 14 Olympians and 27 world champions
Pankowski, a junior from Laguna Hills, California, is a two-time International Ice Hockey Federation World Championship gold medalist and has participated in three Four Nations Cups, most recently winning gold in 2016. This season she has seven goals and six assists in 14 games for the Badgers, including a hat trick against Minnesota Duluth on Nov. 19th.
Ryan, a senior from Victor, New York, is a mainstay on the Badger's blue line. Last season she had a team-high +49 plus/minus rating and 54 blocks. This season her eight points has her tied for eighth amongst defensemen in the WCHA, while her +18 plus/minus rating is tied for second among WCHA blueliners.
Decker, who played at Wisconsin from 2009-2013, helped the Badgers to a NCAA national championship in 2011. The 2012 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award winner has also competed in five IIHF Women's World Championships, eight Four Nations Cups, and is a 2014 Olympic silver medalist as a member of the U.S. Women's National Team.
Duggan, a two-time silver medalist for the U.S. Women's Olympic Team, played for Wisconsin from 2006-2011. She won three NCAA national championships with the cardinal and white and also won the 2011 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award. As a member of the U.S. Women's National team, she has competed in seven IIHF Women's World Championships and nine Four Nations Cups, captaining Team USA to two gold medals at the world championships.
Knight, a two-time Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award top-10 finalist and two-time NCAA national champion, played at Wisconsin from 2007-2012, spending the 2009-10 season with the Olympic team. She is a two-time silver medalist for the U.S. Women's Olympic Team and has competed in eight IIHF Women's World Championships and 10 Four Nations Cups as a Member of the U.S. Women's National Team.
Rigsby, the first goalie to be named captain of Wisconsin, played for the Badgers from 2010-2014. In 2011 she helped the Badgers to an NCAA national championship. As a member of the U.S. Women's National Team, she has competed in two IIHF Women's World Championships, winning gold both times. She has also played in four Four Nations Cups.
The camp will help USA Hockey select a team to compete in a two-game series against Canada on Dec. 17 and 19 and will be used to evaluate players heading into the 2017 IIHF World Championship in Plymouth, Michigan.
