Badgers head back to Iowa for ISU Classic

Wisconsin heads to Ames for final road trip before Big Tens
After coming off impressive finishes in last week's Armory Invitational in the Big Apple – including record-breaking mile run by sophomore Morgan McDonald – the Wisconsin track and field teams head into Ames, Iowa, to compete at the Iowa State Classic at the Lied Recreation Center Friday and Saturday.
A sure highlight of the meet will be when two of the nation's finest throwers, Kelsey Card and Raven Saunders (Mississippi), square off in the weight throw on Friday afternoon. Card is coming off multiple weight throw wins this season including a massive throw of 66 feet, 8 3/4 inches at the Badgers' dual against Notre Dame.
If you miss the first showdown of the Card-Saunders battle, you're in luck. The two will kick-off the second day of the meet in the shot put set to start at noon. The duo rank first and second in the country in the event. The duo also finished 1-2 at last year's NCAA outdoor meet.
Coming off an incredible mile performance at the Armory, McDonald, the reigning Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week, will switch gears to the 3000 meters. The sophomore will compete against another fast heat, including Syracuse's freshman phenom, Justyn Knight.
Redshirt senior Zach Ziemek and sophomores Jake Wallenfang and Tim Guthrie will represent the Badgers in the men's pole vault. Ziemek ranks 16th in the country in the pole vault and leads the Big Ten Conference in the event with a clearance of 17-4 1/2. The men's vault will take place at 12:30 p.m. on Friday.
Junior Georgia Ellenwood comes off a PR of 19-9 ½ in the long jump in which she marked in the pentathlon at the Jack Jennett Invitational. Looking to use that momentum, the All-American is set to for take-off around 11 a.m. Friday morning.
The men's 60 meters is headlined by none other than Lorenzo Larry. After facing the nation's finest sprinters last week at the Armory and missing the final cut by one, the junior will go into Ames with a head of steam and an eye for a familiar first place finish.
Larry and Ryan Davis will make for a lightning fast 200 meters after last week's performance at the Armory. Larry comes off an impressive finish and PR of 21.47 while Davis is fresh off a section win in 22.21.
Gabi Anzalone will set the precedent for the women in the running events. Racing in the 5000 meters against a talent-packed field, including Notre Dame's Molly Seidel, Anzalone quoted earlier this season that she would, "like to break 16 in the 5000 meters" and will have the opportunity against some of the nation's best runners.
In the men's mile, Austin Mudd will lace up for the first time in the event since his previous school record in the event was broken by McDonald. The fifth-year senior will compete in the huge field along teammates Joe Hardy, McKena Ramos and Zack Snider.
Taylor Amann, Jane McCurry and Claire Buck will hold it down for the Badgers in the women's pole vault. Amann has picked up victories in both meet's she's competed in this year, while McCurry hasn't been far off Amann's marks, placing second in each of her wins. The women's pole vault is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
Brenna Detra comes off a personal-best at the Armory in the 800 meters and will be tested against a huge field.
The meet will wrap-up with the 4x400 showcasing Ryan Davis, Corbin Ellis, Lorenzo Larry and Eric Brown on the men's side and Georgia Ellenwood, Ebony McClendon, Brenna Detra and Emma Reifel on the women's side.
