SAN DIEGO – Sophomore
Riley Budde won the invitational section of the hammer throw to highlight action for the Wisconsin men's track and field team during the first day of the Aztec Invitational on Friday at the at the AzTrack at SDSU Sports Deck.
Budde's toss of 201 feet, 1 inch ranks third in program history behind
Michael Lihrman and
Scott Erickson. The mark currently ranks fourth in the Big Ten Conference.
Russell Sandvold shined in the invitational section of the 3000 meters, taking third in 8 minutes, 27.37 seconds. Fifth-year senior
Austin Mudd placed ninth in the invite section in 8:45.87.
Junior
Ryan Davis tied for seventh in the 200 meters with a time of 22.21, while sophomore
Corbin Ellis was 13th in the 800 meters in 1:57.82.
Fifth-year senior
Charlie Foss was fourth in the 110 hurdles in 15.24 and freshman
Andrew Madison was close behind in eighth in 15.35.
Two weeks after winning the heptathlon title at the 2016 NCAA Indoor Championships, fifth-year senior
Zach Ziemek took seventh in the discus with a mark of 159-4.
Redshirt freshman
Zac Webster was 16th in the 100 meters with a personal-best time of 11.26.
The final day of the Aztec Invitational starts up on Saturday at noon CT with the women's discus and the men's 4x100 relay.
