Wisconsin sends six multi-event athletes to Georgia for early season competition
MADISON, Wis. -- Spec Towns Track is the place to be if you're a premier multi-event athlete this week as the Wisconsin track and field program sends six student-athletes to Athens, Georgia, for the Bulldog Decathlon and Heptathlon this Wednesday and Thursday.
The men's decathlon field features five of the top-20 decathletes in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association National Rankings, including the 2016 NCAA Indoor Heptathlon Champion, Zach Ziemek, and the 2015 NCAA Outdoor Decathlon Champion, Maicel Uibo of Georgia.

Uibo enters the weekend as the top-ranked athlete in the decathlon, while Ziemek, a recent addition to The Bowerman's Men's Watch List, is ranked fourth. Middle Tennessee's Atsu Nyamadi is ranked 12th, while Georgia's Karl Saluri and Devon Williams are 15th and 20th, respectively. Â
Ziemek is joined in the 18-man decathlon field by teammates Sawyer Smith, Charlie Foss and Trent Nytes, who will make his decathlon debut.
The decathlon starts on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. CT with the 100-meter dash and on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. with the 110 hurdles.
In the women's heptathlon, Georgia Ellenwood and Casie Pawlik will compete for the Cardinal and White.
Ellenwood is one of four competitors ranked in the top-50 in the heptathlon in the USTFCCCA rankings, as the Langley, British Columbia, native, checks in at No. 11. Georgia's Kendell Williams, the 2016 NCAA Pentathlon Champion, is ranked third, Tennessee State's Clairwin Dameus is 31st and Middle Tennessee's Elizabeth Dadzie is 45th.
The heptathlon starts on Wednesday and Thursday at 11 a.m.Â
