Badgers finish in 11th place prior to lightning delay
Glenview, Ill. -- Led by sophomore Jordan Hahn's impressive 7-under performance to sit in first place on the player's leaderboard, the Wisconsin men's golf team is in 11th place through 36 holes of the Windon Memorial Classic at the North Shore Country Club in Glenview, Illinois.
Â
Hahn (70-67=137) matched his career low with a 5-under 67 in the second round to jump five spots up the leaderboard. Andy Zhang of Florida is one stroke back in second place and Florida's Gordon Neale ended the day three strokes off Hahn for third.
Â
Junior Eddie Wajda (73-75=148) is tied for 31st after ending the day with a 3-over 75. At 9-over, freshman Nick Robinson (77-76=153) sits in a tie for 59th place while senior Ben Skogen (76-80=156) fis three strokes behind in 71st place. Freshman Pete Kuhl (81-81=162) shot a back-to-back 9-over 81s for 78th place.
Â
"We were just really inconsistent today, we never really got a run going," UW head coach Michael Burcin said. "We played pretty well in the middle of the second round and then didn't finish well."
Â
Although a lightning delay near the conclusion of the second round prevented Michigan, Iowa and Marquette from finishing, the 18-over Badgers (296-298=594) are in 11th place, just one stroke behind 10th-place Indiana and six behind Princeton. At 8-under, Florida leads and Eastern Michigan sits just two strokes off. UC Davis is in third at 4-under, while Northwestern sits in fourth after finishing 2-over.Â
Â
Michigan, Iowa and Marquette will conclude the second round at 7:30 a.m. Monday before the final round tees off. Live scoring can be found at Golfstat.com.
Â
"I'm super proud of Jordan and the opportunity he is going to have tomorrow," Burcin said. "We have the ability to have a really solid week. We need to get off to a good start. Part of having a really young lineup is that we're really not sure what we're going to get every week, but it's another great opportunity tomorrow."
