Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational named top meet of 2016 by Flotrack
September 27, 2016 | Men's Cross Country, Women's Cross Country
Eighth-annual event takes place on Oct. 14
MADISON, Wis. – It was no surprise on Thursday when FloTrack announced that this cross country season's top meet is the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational based off the organization's preseason rankings.
The men's race recorded a score of 194, the top score in the country, while the women's race tallied 190 points. The Pre-National Invite, which is held the same weekend as the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational, netted a score of 107 for its women's race and 100 for its men's race.
"We strive to host one of the most competitive and spectator friendly meets in the country," UW Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Mick Byrne said. "It is wonderful to see that the work that we have put into this meet has paid off. We have a great cross country course that helps us put on a meet that attracts the best field in the country."
To be included in the rankings, races had to have at least two teams ranked in the top 25 of the Saucony Flo50 preseason rankings. Competitions were scored on the number of ranked teams participating, with higher ranked teams garnering more points.
According to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association National Coaches' Poll released on Sept. 26, 18 of the 30 ranked women's teams and 21 of the 30 ranked men's will come to Madison for the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational.
