MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin men's track and field clawed back toward the end but wound up falling short in a tight meet to Minnesota by the score of 87-74 in front of a packed house at The Shell.
Â
"This is what track and field is about," Director of Track and Field and Cross Country
Mick Byrne said. "Dual meet, head-to-head competition, it was awesome. Great crowd, they were into it. Our student-athletes were into it. Ultimately that was the goal of this meet."
Â
Lorenzo Larry put together another excellent performance, winning two events after capturing two races during last weekend's meet. The senior set a meet record, besting his time from last year, in the 60 meter dash, crossing the finish line in 6.72. Larry followed up his stellar run with a win in the 200 meters with a time of 21.77.
Â
"I can't tell you enough how good it was to look up in the stands and see my family and my friends," Larry said. "I wanted everybody in the whole audience to know that this is my house, and I wanted Minnesota to know that this is my house."

Â
"Your teammates are looking at you, the spectators can get into it, they can relate to it," Byrne said. "At the end of the day, there is going to be a winner and a loser and that is what competition is all about. It's awesome to be able to bring a meet like this to Madison, to our fans.
Â
"Our student-athletes are out here supporting each other; you don't always get to see that. That's exciting to see that from a coaching perspective. That's what you want from your team."
