PISCATAWAY, NJ – The No. 12 Wisconsin women's soccer team had one of its biggest tests of the season at No. 16 Rutgers on Sunday afternoon.
The Badgers (8-3-1 overall, 2-2-1 Big Ten) put up a fight through 90 minutes of what was a defensive battle with the Scarlet Knights (9-1-2, 3-1-1) but 26 seconds into the overtime period, the Scarlet Knights scored the lone goal of the game to give UW its first true road loss of the season.
Rutgers' Amirah Ali scored the game-winning goal thanks to assists from to give UW its third loss of the season.
After getting no action in the first half, UW senior goalkeeper
Caitlyn Clem played a key role in the second half stopping five game-changing Scarlet Knight shots. The first was on a free kick in the 60th minute and the second was a fingertip deflection in the 67th minute. Another key save was assisted by defender
Grace Douglas who had a nice touch on the shot from Kenie Wright to slow it down.
It was a quiet first half for both teams, recording just two shots each but the Badgers held a 2-0 advantages in shots on net.
Four Badgers recorded one shot each, while
Victoria Pickett and
Emily Borgmann notched UW's only shots on goal of the game. Both teams earned four corners each.
Top Play: Sophomore defender
Camryn Biegalski had the biggest defensive play of the game, rushing back to the net after a shot got past the line and ricocheted it back out in the final 10 minutes of regulation.
