Monson was the top Badger at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational with a time of 20 minutes, 13.9 seconds in the 6K race, awarding her a spot in the top 20 and a new personal record. It marked the second time that Monson has thrived at the Zimmer Championship Course this year as the Amery, Wisconsin, native won the Mayflower Day Open earlier this season.

Straight from the Course:
Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Mick Byrne
On the women's performance

"These women did a great job. This field is as good as any national championship. A lot of teams are fit as heck right now. This meet is on steroids. They just get after it, at least the women did. The men didn't get after it as hard as everyone thought they would. They were pedestrian through at least four five kilometers, but the women get after it. They don't mess around. Our women put themselves in a position to score really high. They were in third place at 4K, they just fell apart. You lose one kid like that and Sarah, what if she didn't finish? We would've been way back. They still finished in a good position in ninth and at this type of meet with this type of field, it's still an outstanding meet. This will help our cause down the road at NCAA's so it's all good. We still have a lot of racing to do."

Sophomore Alicia Monson
On the day overall:
"I thought we did a really good job of using it as a learning experience and we did a really good job of hanging together, especially me, Sarah and Amy through the first 4k. We just went as we could after that."

On how team running helps going forward:
"It really gives us confidence, so far we've had a lot of smaller meets and it's all fine. But getting out here with so many good teams that are top of the country, it's really great to just feel so many people with you as you run."

On postseason:
"Big Tens, Regionals, Nationals are all really our goal meets of the season, so we're using our experiences of races this season to really ramp this up for when it really counts."

Assistant coach Jill Miller
On the race plan:

"Our plan today was to run aggressively from the gun. They did a fantastic job of pushing each other through 4k and ran extremely tough out there."

On Sarah Disanza:
"Sarah Disanza is one of the toughest kids I've ever met. Something hit her system today and anyone else would've given up at 2k but man, she showed she'll do whatever it takes to help her team."

Up Next:
After this weekend, the Badgers will start prepping for the championship season which will start on October 29th with the Big Ten Championships at the IU Championship Course in Bloomington, Indiana.
