Anderson ties for second at 3-under to lead UW

KENNESAW, Ga. – The Wisconsin men's golf team used a furious rally over the final nine holes to earn their best finish of the fall season, tying for second place at the Pinetree Intercollegiate in Kennesaw, Georgia. The Badgers shot a combined 5-under par on the back nine to catch host Kennesaw State and finish just one stroke back of the tournament champion, Southern Illinois.

"We are very happy with how the guys reacted on the back nine today," UW head coach Michael Burcin said. "We got off to a pretty bad start, when they knew they were in the hunt, and they responded the last nine holes. Once again our improved depth shined with both freshmen finishing inside the top 20. It's a nice finish to the fall."

For the Badgers, it was their best team result since winning the NYX Hoosier Invitational on April 12, 2015.

Freshman Sam Anderson was 2-under par on Tuesday to finish 3-under for the tournament and earn a share of second place. That was the best finish for a Badger since Nick Robinson also tied for second at the Charleston Shootout on Feb. 11, 2017.

Junior Jordan Hahn shot his second consecutive round of 73 to finish the tournament at 2-over par and tied for 12th place. Freshman Griffin Barela also earned a top-20 finish, earning a share of 17th place at 5-over par. Hahan and Barela both recorded a pair of top-20 finishes in the Badgers' five fall tournaments.

Sophomore Pete Kuhl was instrumental in the back-nine comeback, going birdie-eagle on holes No. 9 and 10 and finishing 2-under par over his final nine holes. For the tournament, he tied for 26th at 8-over par. Classmate Nick Robinson, who shot 1-under par in Monday's first round, placed 40th. Junior Brett Robinson, playing as an individual, finished 56th.

The Badgers will next compete as a team at the Big Ten Match Play at Hammock Dunes in Palm Coast, Florida on Feb. 9-10.
